Over the past five years, China’s amusement park market, which includes both water and theme parks, has been expanding at a whopping 11% rate in revenue. This particular sector will see $3.3 billion in revenue in 2015, and $4.8 billion in 2020. The market leader is Overseas Chinese town, made it into Forbes Asia’s “Best Under A Billion” list, but is surely facing an uphill battle.
OCT, whose headquarters are in Shenzhen, claims a 10.6% share in the marketplace; whereas none of its followers has more than 2%. The company first opened China’s a theme park in 1989 that featured miniature replicas of China’s landmarks, and has now become the world’s fourth largest theme park group. With a 28 million visitor count in 2014, this makes it a fifth of top operator of Disney’s attendance.
